Regardless of Service Component, I've recommended several Spouse Medals and I have presented at least 4 of them. If done with heart, the Spouse Medal is typically emotional and tough to read aloud, never mind trying to read the "Old English" font. To solve this minor challenge for the narrator, I ensure the citation is retyped (included) in the script so they don't have to read the "Old English" font. Additionally, I place all of the award citations into a column format in the script. For the narrator, it is like reading a newspaper article. Simply, I found it far easier to read short lines left to right, and I will include dashes or breaks to indicate a specific pause. As with any award citation, presentation, or script, if it is PRACTICED out loud, and if it is read well during the ceremony, you will find your recipient and the audience will get the full experience of this emotional piece. It is a beautiful presentation--especially if the recipient is presented with either a red rose or a bundle of red roses.
